The Bach Family

There can have been no greater musical dynasty than that of the Bach family. J.S. Bach was born into a long line of highly respected professional musicians and the genetic inheritance was clearly very potent. Of the 20 children that Bach's two wives bore him, four went on to have significant musical careers.
This programme is an exploration of the progress of musical styles throughout the eighteenth century from baroque, through galant and eventually to classical, illustrated by the music of Johann Sebastian and his remarkable progeny, Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Johann Christian.
